Frequently Asked Questions About Richmond CPR Classes

A: We are available seven days a week, including evenings to teach a Richmond CPR certification class at your home or business. Our instructors are all medical professionals who have real-life experience responding to medical emergencies.

Q: Do I need to place a deposit ahead of time to book my Richmond First Aid and/or CPR AED certification class?

A: No deposit is needed to schedule your First Aid and/or CPR AED in Richmond. The cost of your class is determined by the number of people who attend. As you add more people to your class, the overall cost per person will decrease. We bill you after your class with flexible methods of payment: cash, check, direct deposit or credit card. We are available to come to Richmond seven days a week, including evenings. Contact us with a couple of days and start times to work for you, and we will find a day/start time that works for both of us.

Q: I’ve seen 1st Aid Training and First Aid Training for Richmond. Is there a difference?

A: No, those are the same thing. We instruct the American Red Cross First Aid and ASHI certification courses. However, if your group in Richmond doesn’t need a First Aid certification class, we can create a custom class that suits your needs. We teach many non-certification infant first aid classes for new and expecting parents at their homes.

Q: I did an online-only BLS CPR renewal certification class and my Richmondwork supervisor rejected it. Why!?

A: Never do an online-only BLS certification class. Those certifications are not accepted by any healthcare organization. And they shouldn’t be! You need to practice the skills of that course to be able to perform them in a real medical emergency. We teach the American Heart Association’s BLS Provider CPR certification course. It’s the required certification for anyone who works in a clinic or hospital in Richmond. The AHA now has an approach called, “blended learning” that allows you to do a lot of the course online, but you still need to have a BLS “skills session” with an instructor. It’s usually 1 to 1.5 hours of hands-on practice time with the CPR manikins, AED trainers and BVMs. It results in the same BLS certification as doing the entire course in-person with an instructor. Ask us about blended learning.

Q: What skills are taught in a Richmond American Heart Association BLS class?

A: Unlike a CPR class for the public, a BLS class is geared for medical professionals that may have access to additional equipment and trained personnel. Skills include: adult, child and infant CPR. 1 person, 2 person and group responses are practiced, use of an AED – automated external defibrillator, using a BVM – bag-value-mask, advanced airways, responses to choking and opioid emergencies. Anyone can take an AHA BLS certification course in Richmond.

Q: What is the difference between Infant CPR and Child CPR in a Richmond CPR certification class?

A: Infants are defined as one-year-old and under in a First Aid & CPR class. A child Is one-year-old up to puberty. Pediatric First Aid & CPR classes for licensed childcare facilities in Richmond cover child CPR and infant CPR. Adult CPR is also covered because the most often CPR performed is on adults because of cardiac issues

Q: My baby is starting to eat solid foods. Is choking covered in an Richmond infant CPR class if you come to my home?

A: Yes, for infant CPR classes our focus is teaching you to recognize and respond to airway issues: choking, drowning, suffocation, seizures and allergic reactions. Fortunately, it’s rare to do CPR on an infant, but when it happens, often the cause is lack of oxygen. We bring all of the training equipment to Richmond home for infant CPR classes at a time that is convenient for you and your family.

Q: It looks like the Pediatric First Aid class is for childcare professionals in Richmond. Can a parent take it?

A: Anybody can take the American Red Cross Pediatric First Aid CPR AED certification class. It’s a very extensive class and you will gain a real depth of understanding of how to recognize and respond to all the major pediatric medical emergencies. We also offer shorter non-certification pediatric-focused First Aid and CPR classes in Richmond for new and expecting parents.

Q: Can I do my CPR class entirely on-line?

A: If you need your certification to meet a job requirement, the answer is very likely no. There are numerous online advertisements for online only CPR classes. We frequently get calls from people who took an online class, submitted it to their Richmond company supervisor and were told the certification does not meet their requirements. OSHA, the EMSA and other organizations that make sure industries are meeting safety requirements are very clear individuals need to practice CPR, BLS and First Aid skills in Richmond as part of their certification.

Q: How quickly can I get my certification card for my Richmond CPR class?

A: We’re now issuing eCards instead of the traditional paper First Aid, CPR and BLS certification cards in Richmond. eCards are far more versatile than paper cards. Also, we can immediately issue them at your class. eCards can be printed like traditional paper CPR cards and also downloaded as a PDF file to store on your phone or computer.

My family had the pleasure of having Chris teach us a class that, in my opinion, is not an option if you choose to have children – it’s mandatory.

Lori Costabile

I recently completed a CPR class with Chris, and I urge anyone who is interested in taking a CPR class to take Chris’ class; you’ll be happy you did. Chris is a natural teacher, and he has an easy going and very likable personality.
