Frequently Asked Questions About Sacramento CPR Classes

Q: I’m interested in having you teach a class at my business or home in Sacramento. How do I schedule that?

A: Contact us when you’re ready to schedule a CPR, BLS or First Aid class at Sacramento business or home or if you have questions about what class you need. We teach American Red Cross Certification classes for CPR AED, First Aid and Pediatric First Aid. We also instruct American Heart Association certification classes for healthcare professionals: BLS for Healthcare Providers and ACLS. We also teach non-certification infant CPR and First Aid classes for new and expecting parents. In short, we bring all of the training and audio/visual equipment to your location – you just need to provide a room for our class. If you know which class you need, contact us with a couple dates and start times that work for your group. We have many mobile instructors, so we will find a day/start time that works for both of us.

Q: I see you offer CPR AED certification classes for West Sacramento. What does AED mean?

A: We have all a person being defibrillated with paddles on TV medical shows. With advances in technology, now everybody can use a defibrillator called an AED – Automated External Defibrillator. When the AED is turned on it talks the user through what to do. Instead of paddles, sticky pads are applied to the victim’s chest and then the AED analyzes the victim to determine if they need a shock to get their heart beating normally. They are surprising easy to use and widely available for the public to use in airports, malls, gyms and sports stadiums. For our CPR AED classes in San Francisco, we bring practice AEDs so you will be prepared to use one if needed.

Q: I want an Infant CPR class in my home, but don’t need a certification class. Do you teach that?

A: Yes, we do! Our Sacramento CPR Essentials class is a non-certification class designed for new and expecting parents. It covers infant CPR as well as basic first aid topics such as burns, falls and bleeding. The focus of the class is airway issues such as choking, drowning, seizures, suffocation and allergies because that’s often the cause that leads to needing to do CPR for a baby. We also cover how to talk to a 911 Operator while providing care for your baby in a medical emergency.

Q: Are you now issuing eCards for CPR certifications in Sacramento?

A: Yes, eCards are now replacing the traditional paper CPR certification cards. It’s a much better approach in our opinion. Over the years we have replaced hundreds of lost or destroyed CPR cards. With eCards you always have access to your First Aid and CPR certification. Your certification can be printed like a traditional paper card or it can be downloaded as a PDF file. You can email to whomever needs to verify your certification.

Q: My last CPR class was so boring! Please tell me your classes aren’t like that!

A: All of our instructors take pride in the quality of their CPR, BLS and First Aid classes when we instruct in Sacramento. They’re all EMTs, RNs and Paramedics, so all of them have taken many classes over the years. They know just how agonizing it is to sit through a poorly taught CPR class. They strive to interactive with you and encourage you to ask the questions about the topics that are particularly important to you. Whether it’s seizures, asthma, high blood pressure, diabetes or just recognizing when to call 911, our instructors will give you a depth of understanding you likely haven’t received in a class before.

Q: Can I do my CPR class online?

A: You can do part of your First Aid, ACLS, BLS or CPR class online, but you still need to have to do a “skills session” with us to receive your certification. The American Heart Association and the American Red Cross have quality interactive online courses. After completing the online course, our instructor comes to your San Francisco business or homes to practice the skills you learned about online – practicing with the CPR manikins and first aid supplies. For example, if our instructor teaches an entire Red Cross First Aid CPR AED course at your Sacramento business or home, it will take about 4.5 to 5 hours. With the blended learning approach, the online portion takes most people between 2 to 3 hours, but this varies on people’s reading speed and familiarity with the course material. The skills session takes between 1.5 and 2 hours. This approach results in the same Red Cross certification.

Q: How long are your West Sacramento First Aid and CPR classes?

A: First aid certification classes are 2.5 hours.  CPR AED certification classes are 2.5 hours. If you have more than eight people for your CPR class plan on 3 hours.  Since there is some overlap in the course material between the two segments, so plan on 4.5 to 5 hours.  There is another approach called blended learning that results in the same certification.  Your group does some of the course online ahead of time.  Then our instructor comes to your group in the Sacramento area for the hands-on practice portion of the class called a skills session.  A CPR skills session takes about 1 hour.  First aid adds another hour.

Q: What is the minimum number of people needed to set up a Sacramento CPR class at my business or home?

A: There is no minimum number of people needed to set up a First Aid, BLS or CPR class with us.  The more people you have, the less it will cost per person.  We can handle classes up to about 100 people.

My family had the pleasure of having Chris teach us a class that, in my opinion, is not an option if you choose to have children – it’s mandatory.

Lori Costabile

I recently completed a CPR class with Chris, and I urge anyone who is interested in taking a CPR class to take Chris’ class; you’ll be happy you did. Chris is a natural teacher, and he has an easy going and very likable personality.
