Frequently Asked Questions About Petaluma CPR Classes

Q: What is the advantage of having a CPR class at my business? Currently, we send our staff to a local classroom in Petaluma with scheduled CPR classes.

A: Most of our instructors are EMTs and Paramedics who have years of arriving at businesses via a 911 call. It’s not uncommon for them to find the victim’s co-workers panicking, disorganized and sometimes even arguing about how to help. When company employees do not train together, they’re frequently not on the same page about how to respond. When we come to your Petaluma business for a First Aid, CPR or BLS class, we will train your staff how to respond as a group in your office. It’s the best way to prepare your staff to provide First Aid or CPR for a coworker.

Q: What are the qualifications of the instructors who will be coming to my Petaluma home or business for my CPR class?

A: All of our instructors are medical professionals. Most have worked professionally in ambulances as EMTs and Paramedics. We also have RNs. All of them take pride in the quality of their Petaluma First Aid, CPR and BLS classes. Our classes are interactive and questions are encouraged, so ask our instructors to give you extra knowledge on the First Aid and CPR topics most important to you.

Q: Our group in Petaluma needs CPR certifications, but we also need First Aid certifications. Can we get both certifications in the same class?

A: Yes, your group can take an American Red Cross or ASHI First Aid CPR AED certification class in Petaluma. It’s a single certification. All of the First Aid and CPR material can be covered during a single session with our instructors. These classes are typically 4 to 5 hours in length and result in a two-year certification card. You can also do most of the course online ahead of time, followed by a “skills session” with our instructors – the hands-on practice portion of the course. The skills session is typically 1 to 2 hours. Both approaches result in the same Petaluma First Aid CPR AED certification.

Q: I work in healthcare in Petaluma. Am I required to take a BLS class?

A: If you work in healthcare or are a healthcare student, you are required to have a BLS Provider certification. California hospitals and clinics follow American Heart Association CPR guidelines and often require a BLS Provider certification — and will not accept any other organization’s certification. Other healthcare industries that require BLS certifications include dentists, physical and occupational therapists. We always instruct American Heart Association BLS certification classes in Petaluma offices.

Q: Do you teach infant CPR classes at Petaluma homes?

A: Yes, we do. We also teach them at hospitals like California Pacific Medical Center. Our CPR Essentials course is a non-certification course that covers infant CPR and airway issues such as choking, drowning, suffocation, seizures and allergies. We also cover basic first aid topics such as bleeding, burns and falls.

Q: What CPR certification do Petaluma childcare teachers need?

A: Licensed California child care teachers need a Pediatric First Aid & CPR certification for Petaluma. The certification is valid for two years and needs to be accepted by the EMSA – the agency that regulates daycares and preschools. We offer American Red Cross certifications because it’s the preferred certification for the EMSA.

Q: I see you offer CPR AED certification classes for Petaluma. What does AED mean?

A: We have all seen a person being defibrillated with paddles on TV medical shows. With advances in technology, now everybody can use a defibrillator called an AED – Automated External Defibrillator. When the AED is turned on it talks the user through what to do. Instead of paddles, sticky pads are applied to the victim’s chest and then the AED analyzes the victim to determine if they need a shock to get their heart beating normally. They are surprisingly easy to use and widely available for the public to use in airports, malls, gyms and sports stadiums. For our CPR AED classes in Petaluma, we bring practice AEDs so you will be prepared to use one if needed.

Q: Can I do my CPR class online first, and then you come to my Petaluma location for practicing the skills?

A: You can do part of your First Aid, ACLS, BLS or CPR class online, but you still need to have to do a “skills session” with us to receive your certification. The American Heart Association ASHI, and the American Red Cross have quality interactive online courses. After completing the online course, our instructor comes to your Petaluma business or home to practice the skills you learned about online – practicing with the CPR manikins and first aid supplies. For example, if our instructor teaches an entire Red Cross First Aid CPR AED course at your Petaluma business or home, it will take about 4.5 to 5 hours. With the blended learning approach, the online portion takes most people between 2 to 3 hours, but this varies on people’s reading speed and familiarity with the course material. The skills session takes between 1.5 and 2 hours. This approach results in the same certification.

Q: What is the minimum number of people needed to set up a Petaluma CPR class at my business or home?

A: There is no minimum number of people needed to set up a First Aid, BLS or CPR class in Petaluma with us. The more people you have, the less it will cost per person. We can handle classes of up to about 100 people.

My family had the pleasure of having Chris teach us a class that, in my opinion, is not an option if you choose to have children – it’s mandatory.

Lori Costabile

I recently completed a CPR class with Chris, and I urge anyone who is interested in taking a CPR class to take Chris’ class; you’ll be happy you did. Chris is a natural teacher, and he has an easy going and very likable personality.
