Frequently Asked Questions About Mill Valley CPR Classes

Q: You teach CPR classes at Mill Valley businesses and homes? How does this work?

A: In Home CPR was started with the idea of making it easier to take a CPR class. We bring all of the training and audio/visual equipment – you just need to provide a space for our class. We have several mobile instructors, so when you have a couple dates and start times in mind for your Mill Valley First Aid, CPR, ACLS or BLS certification class, let us know, and we will find a day and start times that works for both of us.

Q: A CPR class at my Mill Valley office or home? How do I schedule that?

A: Feel free to contact us with any questions you have. Since most people only do First Aid and CPR certification classes every two years, it can be difficult to remember the name of the class you need and which organization’s certification is required for your business in Mill Valley. Just ask us. Part of our job is to know the CPR and First Aid certification requirements for different industries. We are familiar with OSHA, county dental societies, healthcare provider CPR requirements and the EMSA.

Q: I want First Aid training and also want to get a CPR certification at my Mill Valley business or home.  Can I do that?

A: Yes, we teach ASHI and American Red Cross First Aid certification courses in Mill Valley. People often think CPR and First Aid are the same things, but they aren’t. 1st aid training covers many of the everyday medical issues we all deal with: burns, bleeding, falls, asthma, fainting – as well as topics like stroke, seizures and heart attacks. Everyone should take a first aid class because these are medical issues you’re most likely to encounter.

Q: I work in healthcare in Mill Valley. Am I required to take a BLS class?

A: If you work in healthcare or are a healthcare student, you are required to have a BLS Provider certification. California hospitals and clinics follow American Heart Association CPR guidelines and often require a BLS Provider certification — and will not accept any other organization’s certification. Other healthcare industries that require BLS certifications include dentists, physical and occupational therapists. We always instruct American Heart Association BLS certification classes in Mill Valley offices.

Q: My baby is starting to eat solid foods. Is choking covered in an Mill Valley infant CPR class if you come to my home?

A: Yes, for infant CPR classes our focus is teaching you to recognize and respond to airway issues: choking, drowning, suffocation, seizures and allergic reactions. Fortunately, it’s rare to do CPR on an infant, but when it happens, often the cause is lack of oxygen. We bring all of the training equipment to Mill Valley home for infant CPR classes at a time that is convenient for you and your family.

Q: What CPR certification do Mill Valley childcare teachers need?

A: Licensed California child care teachers need a Pediatric First Aid & CPR certification for Mill Valley. The certification is valid for two years and needs to be accepted by the EMSA – the agency that regulates daycares and preschools. We offer American Red Cross certifications because it’s the preferred certification for the EMSA.

Q: I want to learn how to use an AED and it looks like I can buy one through In Home CPR. Is that true?

A: Yes, we have a relationship with an AED wholesalers and purchase AEDs for our Mill Valley CPR class clients. Our instructors will show you how to use an AED while doing CPR during your class.

Q: What is the minimum number of people needed to set up a Mill Valley CPR class at my business or home?

A: There is no minimum number of people needed to set up a First Aid, BLS or CPR class in Mill Valley with us. The more people you have, the less it will cost per person. We can handle classes of up to about 100 people.

Q: I understand First Aid training for a certification in Mill Valley has to cover required topics. But can your instructor cover First Aid topics that might not be part of the course?

A: When we instruct an ASHI, Red Cross or American Heart Association certification course, we are required to instruct the course according to the guidelines of those organizations. However, our approach to First Aid training and CPR training in Mill Valley is to be very interactive with our students. We encourage our students to ask questions and if you ask about a topic not covered in your course, we are happy to cover it. Also, because we are EMTs, RNs and Paramedics we can give you a depth of understanding on any topic that goes beyond the First Aid training and CPR training of your certification course.

My family had the pleasure of having Chris teach us a class that, in my opinion, is not an option if you choose to have children – it’s mandatory.

Lori Costabile

I recently completed a CPR class with Chris, and I urge anyone who is interested in taking a CPR class to take Chris’ class; you’ll be happy you did. Chris is a natural teacher, and he has an easy going and very likable personality.
