Frequently Asked Questions About Corte Madera CPR Classes

Q: You teach CPR classes at Corte Madera businesses and homes? How does this work?

A: In Home CPR was started with the idea of making it easier to take a CPR class. We bring all of the training and audio/visual equipment – you just need to provide a space for our class. We have several mobile instructors, so when you have a couple dates and start times in mind for your Corte Madera First Aid, CPR, ACLS or BLS certification class, let us know, and we will find a day and start times that works for both of us.

Q: CPR training is important. What about including First Aid training in my Corte Madera class?

A: We agree! Everyone knows that CPR and using an AED are life-saving skills. However, a Corte Madera first aid training class will prepare you for the most common medical emergencies: choking, bleeding, burns, using an epi-pen. Responding to cold and heat emergencies. Broken bones, seizures and allergic reactions. We teach First Aid and CPR AED certification classes combination classes, too.

Q: I work in healthcare in Corte Madera. Am I required to take a BLS class?

A: If you work in healthcare or are a healthcare student, you are required to have a BLS Provider certification. California hospitals and clinics follow American Heart Association CPR guidelines and often require a BLS Provider certification — and will not accept any other organization’s certification. Other healthcare industries that require BLS certifications include dentists, physical and occupational therapists. We always instruct American Heart Association BLS certification classes in Corte Madera offices.

Q: Do you teach infant CPR classes at Corte Madera homes?

A: Yes, we do. We also teach them at hospitals like California Pacific Medical Center. Our CPR Essentials course is a non-certification course that covers infant CPR and airway issues such as choking, drowning, suffocation, seizures and allergies. We also cover basic first aid topics such as bleeding, burns and falls.

Q: Do your classes fulfill EMSA requirements for licensed childcare teachers in Corte Madera?

A: Yes! In Home CPR travels to preschools, daycares and childcare centers around the Bay Area and Sacramento teaching the American Red Cross Pediatric First Aid CPR AED certification course. There is a lot of confusion around the EMSA sticker being on a certification card. Red Cross and American Heart Association certifications are exempt from needing that sticker.  Their certification courses are the industry standard so the EMSA does not require the sticker.  Any other organization’s certification must be approved by the EMSA, and if approved the EMSA sticker is required to be placed on the certification card to show its acceptance. This is why In Home CPR exclusively teaches American Red Cross and American Heart Association certification courses in Corte Madera.

Q: What is the difference between Infant CPR and Child CPR in a Corte Madera CPR certification class?

A: Infants are defined as one-year-old and under in a First Aid & CPR class. A child Is one-year-old up to puberty. Pediatric First Aid & CPR classes for licensed childcare facilities in Corte Madera cover child CPR and infant CPR. Adult CPR is also covered because the most often CPR performed is on adults because of cardiac issues

Q: I want to learn how to use an AED and it looks like I can buy one through In Home CPR. Is that true?

A: Yes, we have a relationship with an AED wholesalers and purchase AEDs for our Corte Madera CPR class clients. Our instructors will show you how to use an AED while doing CPR during your class.

Q: What backgrounds do your instructors have? What is their teaching style?

A: All of In Home CPR’s instructors are medical professionals. Most are EMTs, RNs, Paramedics or medical students. Our instructing style is interactive – questions are encouraged!  We want you to leave your Corte Madera First Aid, CPR or BLS class feeling that you had your questions answered and feel confident you can respond to a medical emergency.

Q: Can I do my CPR class online first, and then you come to my Corte Madera location for practicing the skills?

A: You can do part of your First Aid, ACLS, BLS or CPR class online, but you still need to have to do a “skills session” with us to receive your certification. The American Heart Association ASHI, and the American Red Cross have quality interactive online courses. After completing the online course, our instructor comes to your Corte Madera business or home to practice the skills you learned about online – practicing with the CPR manikins and first aid supplies. For example, if our instructor teaches an entire Red Cross First Aid CPR AED course at your Corte Madera business or home, it will take about 4.5 to 5 hours. With the blended learning approach, the online portion takes most people between 2 to 3 hours, but this varies on people’s reading speed and familiarity with the course material. The skills session takes between 1.5 and 2 hours. This approach results in the same certification.

My family had the pleasure of having Chris teach us a class that, in my opinion, is not an option if you choose to have children – it’s mandatory.

Lori Costabile

I recently completed a CPR class with Chris, and I urge anyone who is interested in taking a CPR class to take Chris’ class; you’ll be happy you did. Chris is a natural teacher, and he has an easy going and very likable personality.
